Based on the 2022 AP score distributions, only 8.9% of students received a 5. Alternatively, you would need to have earned 71.3% of the total available composite points on the APES exam to score a 5. The multiple-choice section accounted for 60% of the total composite score while the free response section accounted for 40%.

In 2022, 27.5% of students received a 4 on the APES exam. Additionally, you would have needed to correctly earn 58% of the total available points to earn a 4 on the AP Environmental Science exam. 

According to the College Board’s AP score distributions, 17.5% of students earned a 3 on the AP Environmental Science exam. In order to achieve a 3 on the 2022 exam, you’ll have needed to correctly answer 50% of the questions. 

Although most students would consider AP Bio to be the more challenging exam, the AP Environmental exam should not be underestimated. While it may not require the same amount of memorization as AP Bio, it does demand greater applied math knowledge

Historically, the pass rate for the AP Environmental Science exam has hovered around 50%. Out of the 179,957 students who took the exam in 2022, 53.8% passed with a score of 3 or higher.
