Based on the 2022 AP score distributions, only 7.9% of students received a 5. Additionally, you would need to have earned 70.0% of the total available composite points on the AP Physics 1 exam to score a 5. The multiple-choice and free response sections each accounted for 50% of the total available points for the exam. 

In 2022, 17.0% of students who took the AP Physics 1 exam received a score of 4.  Alternatively, you would have needed to correctly earn 54% of the total available points to earn a 4 on the AP Physics 1 exam. 

For the 2022 exam, students only needed to correctly answer 44% of the total available points to achieve a passing score of 3. Out of the 144,526 students who took the AP Physics 1: Algebra-Based exam, only 43.4% passed, which is relatively low for an AP exam. 

AP Physics 1 is often considered one of the hardest AP classes due not only to its subject matter but also the algebra-based methods utilized by the curriculum. Arguably, if students have a familiarity with calculus, they may have an easier time with the AP Physics C exams.
